Why There's a Little Pouch of Lavender in Your Box

Why There's a Little Pouch of Lavender in Your Box

Gizem

A small gift from our hands to yours, and the story behind it.

When you receive your jewelry, you might notice something unexpected tucked inside the box, a small linen pouch, soft to the touch, tied with a simple ribbon. Pick it up. Bring it close, gently squeeze in your hand. Take a slow breath in.

That gentle, warm, slightly sweet scent? That's real lavender. Hand-harvested from my garden, dried, and placed there just for you.

We, as Aera Berlin, started doing this not because it was trendy or because we read it in a marketing playbook. We did it because we wanted the moment you open your package to feel like more than just opening a package. We wanted it to feel like a small ceremony. A pause. A breath.

"We wanted the moment you open your package to feel like arriving somewhere quiet."

Think about how you feel when you receive something you ordered. There's excitement, yes but also a kind of rush. You tear it open, you check it looks right, you move on. We wanted to gently interrupt that rush. We wanted you to slow down for just one moment and actually feel something.

The lavender does that. It's impossible to smell lavender and not, even for a second, soften. It's just how it works.

We pick the lavender ourselves from my garden bushes, during the summer bloom bunches of it, still full and fragrant, the purple so deep it almost looks painted. We dry it carefully, fill each little linen sachet by hand, and tie them one by one. The box you see in our photo? That's a whole afternoon of quiet, careful work, just for you.

Every pouch is made with the same intention: that whoever opens this box feels cared for. Not just as a customer. As a person.

A little about lavender

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is one of the most beloved aromatic herbs in the world, native to the Mediterranean but now grown across Europe, North America, and beyond. The variety most commonly used for its scent, and the one we use, is called True Lavender or English Lavender, known for its clean, sweet, slightly floral fragrance.

For centuries, lavender has been used in folk medicine, perfumery, and household traditions. The ancient Romans added it to their baths (the name likely comes from the Latin "lavare", to wash). In Provence, France, it became a symbol of summer and slow living. Across the world, it's been sewn into pillows, tucked into wardrobes, and burned as incense.

Its calming properties are well-documented: the scent of lavender has been shown in multiple studies to reduce anxiety, slow the heart rate, and promote better sleep. So when you breathe it in, that sense of relaxation you feel isn't just nostalgia, it's your nervous system genuinely responding.

You can keep the pouch in your jewelry box, your bedside drawer, your handbag, or anywhere you'd like a little calm. Some of our customers tell us they put it under their pillow. Others keep it on their desk. One person told us she opens her jewelry box every morning just to smell it before starting her day, and that honestly made our whole week.

The piece of jewelry inside that box is made with love and care. But this small pouch? It carries something else entirely. It carries the intention that we had for you, long before you even placed your order.

We hope it finds you well, wherever you are when you open it.

Thank you for being here. Thank you for choosing us. Now, take a breath. 🪻🌿
